Newham: A better place to live and work in
Changing the hearts and minds of people to care more for their environment and take an active part in improving the community and making Newham “A better place for people to live and work in” was the task set for Verve. Over a two-year period, the council had evidence that streets were cleaner, 500 street warden volunteers were recruited, a green fun-day attracted over 30,000 people and the project won the coveted ENCAM environmental ‘Programme of the Year’ award.
According to Malcolm Smith, Director of Environment and Regeneration,
